ES THURET v 3rd XI 21st MARCH 2010

You are probably looking at this page thinking to yourself "where are the photos? Where is the report?"

The answer to that is that there was nothing to photograph and nothing to report either.

Thuret had a full team out with a couple of substitutes but Pionsat could only manage a team of 10, and the match was played on what was a nest of molehills (two weeks ago a player had broken his leg tripping over a molehill while celebrating a goal).

Pionsat had no goalkeeper so Christophe went between the sticks and quite frankly he needn't have bothered for he had nothing to do. Neither. if it comes to that, had the Thuret goalkeeper. The match was slugged out in the centre of midfield for the entire 90 minutes and as I write this, some two weeks later, I reckon that both teams are still out there slugging it out and the score is still 0-0 and the goals are all covered in cobwebs.

It wasn't pretty to watch, that's for sure, but the exciting thing about this game was that the Pionsat defenders managed to keep their concentration for the whole 90 minutes. Thats a victory in itself for it's a rare event. And a point gained away from home is pretty valuable as Pionsat try hard to haul themselves away from the basement.

Now Christophe is a quite useful player in attack at this level and the 3rd XI doesn't have a recognised keeper. So why can't the club do better at trying to recruit a keeper to go between the posts for the team and with Christophe up front (and eleven players out on the field) this match would have been an easy three points for the side.

A few weeks ago Gregory, who was unavailable for the 1st XI's match, turned out for the 3rd XI for the match against Thuret and won the match single-handed. A short while ago Christophe Larue, who was unavailable for the 1st XI's match, turned out for the 3rd XI for the match against Beauregard Vendon and scored 5 goals. If someone from the 1st or 2nd XI had been available today - a good tenacious ballwinner - to make up the numbers, Pionsat would have demolished this poor Thuret side by a country mile with room to spare. I reckon that the diriegéants of the club ought to take the 3rd XI seriously and maybe impose themselves on some of the other players to turn out for the 3rd XI every now and again.
"I'm sorry I can't make the 1st XI match on Saturday night as it's my sister's birthday party."
"No problem. Thanks for letting me know. I'll put you down for the 3rd XI on Sunday then. They are a player short and it's nice to give them a little helping hand every now and again."
How difficult or controversial is that?
