2nd XI v AS NEUF EGLISE 20th MARCH 2010
My notes of football matches are full of references to "hated local rivals" which considering that this area is so remote, isolated and underpopulated that you would have thought it difficult to find even one person to hate.
But here we are again with another local derby against yet more "hated local rivals" in the form of Neuf Eglise, from down near Menat.
First thing that I notice is that François is in goal instead of Michael. It appears that Michael has hurt his shoulder and is unfit to keep goal. François was to turn out for the first team later this evening but he has been rushed into action earlier and Matthieu who would otherwise have deputised but who couldn't get here quickly enough has been woken up and will be along shortly to mind the 1st XI's goal.
Michael declares himself fit to play in the outfield so there's some good that comes out of it, and he's chosen to start up front for the team.
And he starts off with something of a bang. There's a nice lob over the top of the defence and he runs onto the ball in some space. He gathers it up, heads towards the keeper and when he's in shooting range he lets fly. It beats the keeper but it just clips the side netting.
Michael was unlucky there.
But it's not all one-way traffic by any means. Neuf-Eglise are on the attack and they win a corner. The ball is nicely put in and one of the forwards wins the ball in the air as a rather static Pionsat defence look on.
François however is equal to it. He gets right up and plucks it out of the air as it's heading goalwards. He needed to do that and it was a good save.
Pionsat's defence is somewhat worrying. It was a little fragile last season when they won the 3rd Division championship - they've been exposed on a couple of occasions in the 2nd Division and have had a couple of bad maulings.
The ball is now down at the other end of the field and it's Pionsat's turn to win a corner.
The kick is put in and goes right across the goal with no defender there to intercept it. It falls nicely for Thomas who is just inside the penalty area and he hooks it in. Unfortunately for him and for Pionsat it goes just wide of the near post.
So a 0-0 match involving Pionsat's 2nd XI. Who would have thought that? But sad as it is to say it, the 2nd XI's attack this season is only a shadow of the attack that last season devastated a whole host of village sides in the 3rd Division.
