1ST XI v CHAPDES BEAUFORT 11 OCTOBER 2008
Saturday night saw the first team at home against Chapdes-Beaufort, a small town down around Les Ancizes. It was quite a pleasant evening so I joined the heaving multitudes, about 40 of us all told if we were lucky, at the stadium.
Not all that many in the stand, as you can see. There were many more hanging around the pie hut, which doesn't surprise me in the least. Nothing to do with the quality of the pies (there weren't any, and there wasn't any Bovril either - French footy has a long way to go before its catering catches up with acceptable standards), more to do with the attractiveness of the young ladies serving behind the counter, if you ask me.
The first half of the match was played almost entirely in the Chapdes half - the Chapdes players not having much to offer in the way of midfield or attacking prowess. The centre-half was quite comfortable on the ball, however, and looked like he could be a useful player.
But Pionsat didn't look much better either in front of goal, and I don't think I've ever seen such a one-sided match with so few shots on goal. I was impressed with Pionsat's left-winger, but the right back was pretty poor. What happened to the young lad with the Alice band who wore 12 during the Chatelguyon match and who was quite an impressive right-back?
The second half was much more of an exciting game with the ball flowing much more up and down the pitch. Chapdes-Beaufort managed to lauch a few attacks, one of which you can see in the photo here, but didn't seem to be able to make much impression on the Pionsat goal and the keeper was never really under much pressure.
According to the Classement, Pionsat is now 4th in the table. Chapdes-Beaufort is now bottom of the division, although the team looked much better than this. 1-0 against the bottom side might not look so impressive on paper, but it's 3 points all the same.
